From Passionate Investors to Professional Property Service Providers
How we turned our frustrations into solutions and made a difference in the property industry
“Since I can recall I have had a passion for investing, and more specifically for property investments. For me property was the logical choice, it is tangent, appreciates in value, addresses a need and importantly, makes a different in someone’s life. At the early age of 22 I bought my first 2 investment properties, signalling the start of my property journey.
However, it was not long before we started experiencing the downside of being landlords. From late night maintenance emergencies, damage caused to properties, dirty and unhygienic living conditions, neglected gardens, to exploitative prices, empty promises and poor workmanship we have been through it all. While we encountered this on a daily bases, it was unfortunately not limited to our own investment properties, but rather widespread at the majority of complexes and estates. In light of these lived experiences, we actively availed ourselves to serve as trustees at various complexes.
As many of you may know, serving as a trustee is a thankless job, but truly making a difference to not only the complex or estate, but changing the lives of the residents makes it all worth it. Especially seeing the tangible results.
I can still vividly recall the frustration felt with engagements with contractors and service providers. It was sad and shocking to discover that so few are proud of their work, but still so over-eager to send an invoice. It was soon apparent that the primary motivation is to charge as much as possible and not to help to address a problem.
Following many disappointing encounters and driven by my passion for property and the desire to help other property owners, landlords and trustees, I ultimately took the decision to expand Eyesfree from a peer property investment company to also include property services. Learning from our experience as landlords and serving as trustees, we strived to built a property services offering that is proud of what we do, never compromise on quality, understand the struggles and challenges faced, focused on resolving the problem, care about helping owners and, importantly, are committed to reasonable prices.
Initially the service division was only focused on repairs and maintenance, but soon expanded to include estate management, cleaning, garden maintenance, landscaping, waste removal and irrigation and water storage solutions. Today Eyesfree is proud to offer owners, landlords, complexes and estates a full spectrum property service that is completely tailored to their needs.
Looking back at how we began this journey, it is hard to believe that we started with only 3 staff. Fast-forwarding to present, we are Fastly approaching the 100 staff complement mark.
Even after more than 10 years in the industry, there are few things that brings greater joy than seeing a neglected property, complex or estate coming back to life. Whether it is routine maintenance, wholescale renovations, revitalising gardens, upgrading landscaped areas, ensuring reliable irrigation, sustainable waste practices or simply neat and tidy living conditions, the positive affect on the residents are amazing to witness. Not even to mention the additional benefits of proper and effective property services, such as increased property values, higher occupancy rates, increased tenant desirability and reduced costs and levies to mention a few.”
